The role: 

The role will support the delivery of the Virgin Red communications strategy with a laser-sharp focus on PR and partner communications. The role is predominantly focussed on media relations but given the small size of the team, the role holder will also have exposure to internal communications.   


Whilst it is expected that the successful applicant will predominantly focus their attention on Virgin Red communications activity, there may also be occasions where they are required to support the wider external communications team on broader Virgin Group work. 


The role holder will also be required to work out of hours on a rota basis.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Support the team with all media and partner communications for Virgin Red, as well as crisis and incident communications. 
  • Develop communications which drive visibility for Virgin Red, performance, culture / ways of working and any change initiatives – ensuring alignment with Virgin Management and the wider Group.  
  • Support the business in developing relationships with key stakeholders and build your own network of key contacts (specifically journalists and influencers). 
  • Through communications, build Virgin Red’s reputation in the media ensuring it is the first-place journalists go for comment on loyalty. 
  • Run a smooth press office function, managing the daily coverage, media lists, ensuring the news agenda is kept on top of and manned out of hours (remotely). 
  • Draft media relations and other communications / announcements / documents / presentations etc (proactive and reactive) and be the lead on case studies.  
  • Work with communication agencies (PR / corporate comms) and manage supplier relationships (e.g. monitoring, media tools etc). 

For this role we need you to be/have:

  • Gravitas to engage appropriately with key internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • You are adaptable with the ability to think quickly as situations change / demands alter. 
  • You should have solid experience in a similar position having worked with agencies, press and the media essential. Experience in loyalty is not necessary however is advantageous.  
  • You have experience working in a fast paced, high profile environment and organisations.
